Kalogong Kaler Vocational High School (SMK Darussalam) has a vision of “Forming creative, innovative, noble, responsible and able to participate in a global society”. Based on this vision, SMK Darussalam carries out the mission of “Producing qualified and professional experts in their fields” and “Printing graduates who are able to compete in the world of work & business”. To help realize the vision and mission of SMK Darussalam, the results of graduates must be competent in accordance with their respective fields of expertise and skills.
SMK Darussalam has a 1 (one) expertise program namely Computer and Network Engineering. The Computer and Network Engineering Skills Program promises an expertise competency for students. These competencies, including being able to design computer networks including their implementation, and being able to understand advanced computer network systems and the technologies they support.
At present, the direction of industry or community needs for technology is in the field of IoT (Internet of Things). The implementation of IoT in Indonesia is now quite an opportunity. Indosat Ooredoo Group Head Regional Accounts, Fuli Humaeroh said that IoT is an important platform in supporting Indonesia 4.0. The potential of IoT is believed to be very large and is a business in the future. As for the market from IoT itself, I Gusti Putu Suryawirawan as Special Staff of the Minister of Industry in the Field of Investment and Inter-Institutional Relations explained, it would target the fields of communication technology, smart cards, fiber optics, solar panels, lighting (energy saving), and digital television. He said the Government would encourage these sectors to be able to compete in the industrial era 4.0. In addition, IoT can currently be implemented for agricultural technology, security technology, and can be further developed by combining with artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms.
The above condition is an opportunity for SMK Darussalam to have competence in the field of advanced computer network systems and the technologies they support. This supported technology is IoT. Opportunities for teachers and students of SMK Darussalam to design a system that is supported by IoT devices. Even when creating an IoT product or system, at the same time, teachers and students can gain new knowledge.
Darussalam Vocational High Schools need to provide additional knowledge and skills, especially in the field of networks and microcontrollers through IoT. The Darussalam Vocational School needs to add insight into the development of existing IT products. Students need an introduction to several sciences that can be applied to IoT, such as creating an IoT application program or security on IoT. In addition, students also really need to strengthen the fundamental / theory of IoT as a provision of practical skills in the laboratory.
